Veneers Hammersmith

Porcelain Veneers are custom-made porcelain that is used to cover the front surface of the tooth. Veneers are extremely versatile and can be used to close gaps, align crowded and protruded teeth, and close gaps or whiten discoloured teeth.

Porcelain veneers are very strong and last up to fifteen years, provide a lasting smile. They are very natural looking and are easy to look after. Our dental porcelain veneers have an exclusive five year guarantee for peace of mind.

At The Blythe Road Dental Practice, we are proud to provide non-prep porcelain veneers as an option for our patients. Having non-prep veneers offers a non-intrusive preparation procedure, with none or very minimal tooth substance removal. In many cases the non-prep veneers do not need the teeth to be grinded down to get the desired results. Ask our dentists more about this treatment at your consultation.

Veneers Hammersmith FAQs

Once you have had your porcelain veneers fitted, you may be nervous about ruining your new smile with food or drinks that could stain your teeth.

To reduce the likelihood of impairment, there are a few minimal tweaks to your nutrition that we advise, but you should be able to enjoy a full, varied diet.

To keep your veneers in tip-top condition, you should:

  • Avoid biting into very hard or tough foods like boiled sweets, ice, raw vegetables, or chewy meats – try cooking them until softer or cutting them into bitesize pieces.
  • Limit very chewy, sticky foods, like caramels, toffee, or taffies – they are generally full of sugar too which can impact on your dental health.
  • Be mindful of staining foods and drinks like ketchup, red wine, tea, coffee, and colas – rinse the mouth with water after indulging and consider using a paper straw.

With a little thought, it is very easy to keep your veneers strong and stable, helping them last for the expected 10-15 years.

If you have been involved in trauma or your veneers have been in place for a decade or more, they might be looking a little worse for wear and need replacing.

In this instance, your dentist will completely remove the old veneer and replace it with another porcelain veneer shell. It isn’t generally possible to skip the replacement veneer and go back to your natural teeth, so replacement veneers are inevitable if you ever opt for this treatment.

That is unless you have damaged the structure of the tooth itself – as veneers can only be applied to strong, healthy teeth. If this is the case, the tooth could be restored with a crown or removed and replaced with a bridge or dental implant – it just depends on the individual patient.

If your veneers need replacing, our friendly reception team can get you booked in for an appointment at your soonest convenience. Just give us a call on 020 7602 5089 or fill in our booking form and we’ll be in touch.

No-prep veneers are relatively new to the dental market, but this hasn’t impacted their popularity.

These veneers enable patients to keep all of their dental enamel because much less is removed by drilling before the veneers are fitted, versus standard porcelain veneers.

Enamel is the hardest natural substance in the body, even harder than bone, but sadly does not regenerate as bone does, so should be cared for as much as possible.

Tooth enamel acts as a protective shell for the tooth, reducing the chance of damage and helping teeth last a lifetime – so dentists recommend you keep it if you can.

No-prep veneers are also preferred as they do not require anaesthetic for their application and the amount of grinding required is very minimal – perfect for those nervous about the dentist and the drilling equipment.

Because of the association with figurines, dolls, and teacups, porcelain can be thought of as fragile and delicate.

However, the porcelain used in porcelain veneers is frequently mixed with other, much stronger materials, like Zirconia, which give strength to the veneers and help them last for 15 years or more with proper dental care, good hygiene, and mindful eating.

If you are nervous or have more questions, your dentist can discuss the materials that make up your porcelain veneers when you come for your appointment – remember, there is no such thing as a silly question.
